This is a "Deluxe" version of the Scarab with more control over "feel" and adjustments in bias.
This version adds in a couple knobs over the 3 knob version.
Read the Scarab description below for the main attributes.
Tonebender type circuits vary depending on the bias of the 3rd transistor. Gritty gated tones on one end of the dial, sustaining lead tones in the middle and sweet lower gain tones at the other end of the rotation. Bias affects tone and gain.
The low end at the input of the circuit affects fuzz amount and saturation. The feel of the pedal can be adjusted from a saturated slower responding "fat fuzz" to a snappy, fast responding, slightly less gain fuzz that has the feel of a distortion or overdrive. This helps dial in a single coil to be fat or a humbucker to clear up a bit and be more sensitive to dynamic picking.

This fuzz can go all out wild, or be tamed down to almost an overdrive sound. My first impression actually wasn't so good as I initially tested it at pretty low volume. This baby wants to sing though, and I found that out when I opened up my amp a little. The Scarab deluxe also plays nice with single coils, but really is fantastic with humbuckers. It rocks. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

When I got this fuzz, I had already been through a few others (kept the Hoof I bought). I had watched demo videos of it for quite awhile and was already really hyped up by the time I ended up finally ordering it.
It got to me in two days (thanks Cory at Prymaxe!) and when I plugged it in, it felt and sounded exactly like what I heard in the videos. That says a lot about the pedal when you can basically plug it into any rig and it ends up sounding as good as what you've heard in other rigs (for reference, mine is a Les Paul and a Strat into a Hot Rod Deluxe).
Both Just Nick and Gearman Dude don't lie. There isn't a single setting on this pedal that isn't awesome sounding. You could honestly play with this thing for weeks before you figured out which, of the wide array of sounds, you want out of the pedal.
Some of the other reviewers are right though, it can have an OD/Distortion feel to it when dialed back, but then you're not really using it for the fuzz aspect of it (still sounds great though).
Really great pedal. Hats off to John at Basic Audio for making a really top notch pedal.

This is a do-it-all fuzz. You can dial in 99% of just about any fuzz tone out there. Super quiet. Easy to use. Love it.

Best Fuzz Tonebender I've tried. Can't get a bad tone out of it. And very versatile!

All five knobs of this super versatile fuzz are extremely interactive allowing for an amazingly wide range of fuzz tones. I've dialed in everything from thick massive walls of fuzz to thin and sputtering and everything in between. Best of all this pedal retains outstanding string definition and tight lows at any gain level. Excellent build quality, well thought out design, and incredible versatility make this a highly recommended pedal that could earn a place on almost anyone's board.

From Tonebender to Fuzz Face tones, close to an overdrive depending on the settings, always with clarity, definition and precision...
Just the perfect fuzz for me.

If you're not a big fan of fuzzes you'll enjoy this one. It does indeed sound more like an overdrive than a fuzz, which could actually be a negative if you're happy with your od/distortion and are looking for pure fuzz.
That being said, it's got some great sounds in it and is very flexible and tweakable.

I bought this pedal after trying a couple other fuzzes. I wasn't hearing what I wanted to hear out of any I'd owned thus far. I kept reading about the versatility and no-bad-sound-ness of the SD and decided I finally needed to give it a go. So glad I did but I wish I hadn't waited so long. This thing is so tweakable but sounds good just about anywhere you set the knobs. It can sound muff-ish, like an overdrive, distortion or of course a fuzz. Don't think about it too much, just get it!

Tonebender like sounds, that can be gated, or muted and dynamically adjusted to sound like a full on Fuzz or a Disto/Overdrive.
